An Architect You Say!

The two songs It’ll Be White, Black or at Most Gray and And Do You Enjoy It? Most of All, You Have to Enjoy It! depict a daily work routine of two architects in a text collage formed by passages from emails and dialogues of architects Markéta Mráčková and Barbora Šimonová themselves, their friends, investors, builders, workers and officials. The meaning of the selected passages becomes clear only when they are put together. Only then the absurdity of these seemingly unrelated sentences stands out. Turned into rap, these sentences, which are almost meaningless in the everyday life of the two architects, can have a subversive effect by themselves. Like tips of icebergs, they suggest that beneath the surface of a respectable vocation there are dangerous masses that we don’t want to see – precarization, chauvinism, lack of free time, the impossibility of going on holiday or buying legal software. The authors are able to comment in this way, for example, on communication on the construction site, deciding on the selection of the most suitable possible solutions and the aversion to having to convince someone all the time. The specific status of female architects became the impetus for the writing the songs. The video clip is composed of photographs, the authors’ videos and simple animations. Markéta Mráčková and Barbora Šimonová founded the cosa.cz cultural association and run the cosa.tv platform. They occasionally engage in architectural rap.

Joo, tak ty jsi architektka!
Dvě písně Bude to bílý, černý nebo maximálně šedý a A baví vás to? Hlavně vás to musí bavit! zprostředkovávají momenty z běžné praxe dvou architektek formou textové koláže, jejíž části jsou pasážemi z emailů či rozhovorů. Ty si mezi sebou vyměňují či vedou samy architektky Markéta Mráčková a Barbora Šimonová, jejich kamarádi, investoři, stavitelé, dělníci a úředníci. Význam vybraným pasážím dodává až jejich zařazení do celku, kdy vynikne absurdnost zdánlivě nesouvisejících vět – vět, které jsou v každodenní praxi architektek téměř bezvýznamné, ale přeneseny do rapu dokáží samy o sobě působit subverzivně. Jako špičky ledovců naznačují, že pod hladinou ctihodného povolání se nacházejí nebezpečná masa, kterou nechceme vidět – prekarizace, šovinismus, nedostatek volného času, nemožnost dopřát si dovolenou nebo nakoupit legální software. Autorky jsou schopné tímto způsobem glosovat třeba komunikaci na stavbě, rozhodování o výběru nejvhodnějších možných řešení a nechuť stále někoho přesvědčovat. Specifická pozice žen architektek se stala impulsem ke vzniku písní. Vizuální stopa je složena z fotografií, videí autorek a z jednoduchých animací. Markéta Mráčková a Barbora Šimonová společně založily kulturní družstvo cosa.cz a provozují platformu cosa.tv. Příležitostně se zabývají architektonickým rapem.
